Almaty, 28 November 2018 — From today, Visa and Mastercard Halyk Bank and Qazkom cardholders have been able to pay for goods and services using Apple Pay - an easy and safe payment tool, which completely changes the scope of mobile payments, offering users the speed, convenience and security.

“We are pleased to offer our customers this easy and convenient method of contactless payment for goods and services, and we, in turn, have long ago prepared our acquiring infrastructure for accepting Apple Pay. With this technology coming to Kazakhstan, perhaps the only thing worth taking when leaving home is a smartphone,” said Umut Shayakhmetova, CEO of Halyk Bank.

The Apple Pay service is based on Visa Token Service technology[1], thanks to which Visa Halyk Bank cardholders can make purchases with their cards on any Apple device supporting this service,” commented Galym Tabildiyev, Visa General Manager in Central Asia.

Apple Pay is very easy to set up: customers can add a Visa and Mastercard Halyk Bank and Qazkom card in the Homebank app or in the Wallet app. In stores, you can pay with Apple Pay from iPhone SE, iPhone 6 and later models, as well as from Apple Watch.

Apple Pay technology is based on the security and privacy of customer data. When adding a card to Apple Pay, its number is not stored either on the device or on Apple servers. Instead, a unique account number is created, encrypted and securely stored on the Apple Secure Element chip. Each transaction is authorized by a unique one-time secret code that is dynamically generated.

Apple Pay makes it very easy to make purchases in apps and on websites with one touch of a finger to the Touch ID or double-click on the side button and look at the iPhone X to confirm the operation via Face ID. Now you do not need to manually fill out lengthy documents with contact details or re-enter data on the delivery and invoicing. When paying for purchases in apps or in Safari - Apple Pay operates on iPhone 6 and newer models, on iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3 and newer models. You can also use Apple Pay in Safari on any Mac no older than 2012 with macOS Sierra installed on your computer, confirming payment from your iPhone 6 or a newer model, or directly from Apple Watch, as well as touching your finger to the Touch ID on new MacBook Pro. Halyk Bank has also prepared bonus promotions for customers for the launch of the Apple Pay service: each Halyk and Qazkom card activated in the Wallet app is charged 500 tenge of Go! bonuses, and when paying at popular coffee houses, 5% of Go! Bonuses are added.

At present, Halyk Bank acquiring network includes 26,000 POS-terminals equipped with the function of contactless payment, which is 40% of the total POS-terminals of the bank. This is the largest POS-terminal network in the country. At the same time, the terminals through which you can pay for goods and services by simple touching the Visa, Mastercard or Apple wearable devices are installed at 9,585 merchants in Kazakhstan. In total, there are over 11 million locations in the world where Apple Pay is available.

As explained at Halyk Bank, customers are increasingly using payment cards to pay for goods and services, including payments at trade and service enterprises, as well as payments and transfers via Homebank: for the latest period, 28 million payments were made via the online platform. The arrival of Apple Pay will give a new impetus to the development of the contactless payment market in Kazakhstan, similar to how it has already happened in Russia and Ukraine.
