20 thousand families, 32 million government services and 8.8 million movie tickets. All of this is one bank

What scale has the ecosystem Halyk reached in recent years, and how is the daily life and routine of every Kazakhstani changing before our eyes?

In 2025, the volume of transactions processed through the payment infrastructure of Halyk, amounted to a sum equivalent to 116% of Kazakhstan's GDP. But another indicator is even more telling: the banking app is gradually becoming for millions of Kazakhstanis a point of access not only to money, but also to shopping, investments, government services and other everyday services. Let's analyze the figures that show where the country's banking market is heading.

In Singapore, Asian Banking & Finance presented Halyk with three awards at once: Domestic Retail Bank of the Year, Ecosystem Initiative of the Year and Private Bank of the Year.

The result is remarkable not only for the number of awards. According to the award rules, one bank can apply in a maximum of three categories. Halyk submitted three applications and won in all three nominations. However, in this case, the international award is more of an opportunity to look at a more interesting process: how deeply Kazakhstan's largest banks have already integrated into the country's everyday economy.

116% of GDP passed through the payment infrastructure

116% of Kazakhstan's GDP - this is the volume of operations that passed through the Halyk payment infrastructure in 2025, in comparison with the country's annual GDP.

This, of course, does not mean that the bank “created” an amount greater than the GDP: GDP measures the produced added value, whereas payment turnover accounts for the movement of money and can multiple times include funds involved in different operations.

Today, Halyk has 11.5 million active retail customers. Approximately 40% of Kazakhstan's employed population use the bank's payroll cards.

In effect, this is no longer just about the customer base of a single financial institution, but about a significant portion of the country's economically active population.

Digital Bank that increasingly eliminates the need to visit a branch

94% of retail loans Halyk by volume are already issued digitally. The same share — 94%, accounts for new deposits opened online.

The retail loan portfolio reached KZT 4,599 trillion, increasing by 10.8% over the year. The share of Halyk in this market is 17.9%, and the number of borrowers is 1.87 million people.

The bank's position in population savings is even more noticeable. The retail deposits portfolio amounts to KZT 7,976 trillion, or 27.5% of the market.

Its structure is also interesting. The share of tenge (KZT) deposits grew from 67.5% to 72.7%. This may indicate a gradual change in depositor behavior: an increasing portion of funds is remaining in the national currency.

270 million visits to the banking app per month

Halyk SuperApp today has 8.52 million monthly active users and about 3.2 million - daily.

Per month, users make more than 270 million visits and over 1.5 billion actions.

For comparison: in 2021, the monthly audience was 4.17 million users. In five years, it has effectively doubled.

In 2025 alone, 441.8 million payments and transfers were made via the app — this is 23.2% more than the previous year.

These indicators provide a clear explanation of what is happening in Kazakhstan's banking market. Competition has long been about more than just a loan or a deposit. Banks are competing for which app a person will open first when they need to pay a bill, buy a product, process a document, purchase insurance, or invest money.

Government services are becoming part of the banking ecosystem

Just a few years ago, government services and banking services existed for the user almost in parallel. Now the boundary between them is gradually narrowing.

In 2025, Halyk SuperApp processed 32 million requests for government services, compared to 17.5 million the previous year.

There are 74 services available in the app, approximately 6 million digital documents have been provided to users, and the government services section is used by around 805 thousand people monthly.

There are also less obvious examples of digitalization. Halyk ID — a single sign-on system for partner services — has reached 999 thousand users, Business ID is used by about 34 thousand companies.

Via Halyk SuperApp, more than 20 thousand families registered their marriage.

In 2025, more than twenty thousand Kazakhstani couples began registering their marriage via phone. They filled out the application, chose a Public Service Center, paid for the service, and received a registration date — all in the banking app, on the go. Of course, they still went to the registry office later: the bank cannot replace this tradition, nor does it want to. But the entire paperwork part, which previously required taking time off work, has moved into the app

The next level of competition is ecosystems

Over the year, 8.8 million tickets were sold via Kino.kz, and the platform's turnover reached KZT 26.5 billion. Halyk Market became the fourth largest e-commerce platform in Kazakhstan. Its GMV reached KZT 124 billion, increasing by 430% compared to 2023. There are 18.5 thousand sellers operating on the platform, with approximately 5.5 million product items represented.

The logistics network covers 16 cities: 146 delivery points, 92 pickup points and 200 parcel lockers. Launched in March 2024, Apteka.kz offers approximately 14.5 thousand product items, and the order assembly rate reaches 98.5%.

Halyk Travel grew by 37.3% over the year. Auto insurance premiums tripled — to KZT 28.5 billion, and the customer base reached 1.7 million people.

All this shows why banks today prefer to talk not so much about mobile banking, but about ecosystems. The more everyday tasks a user solves within a single app, the less often they feel the need to switch to other services.

Almost one and a half million investors

Another transformation is taking place in the investment market.

The combined customer base of Halyk Invest and Halyk Finance reached 1,429 million people, increasing by 34.4% over the year.

Transaction volume grew by 54.3% — to KZT 7.1 trillion. Assets under management reached KZT 1.4 trillion, and brokerage assets — KZT 3.4 trillion.

Halyk Finance holds 66.5% of the pension asset management market and 70.7% of the segment among private management companies.

Behind these figures lies a broader process — investment products in Kazakhstan are gradually moving from the category of services for a narrow audience into the mass digital segment. What previously required a broker, a separate agreement, and substantial starting capital now more often begins with a smartphone.

Why three awards in Singapore are important for the market

Asian Banking & Finance has been holding the Retail Banking Awards since 2006 year. Over the years of the award's existence award among its laureates were Standard Chartered, United Overseas Bank, Hong Leong, CIMB and BDO Unibank.

In 2026, Indonesia's BRI was also a notable participant in the ceremony, receiving two awards. The bank's customer base exceeds 100 million people.

Against this backdrop, the three awards Halyk are interesting primarily as recognition of the Kazakhstani banking model in the international market.

But far more important is the scale of the processes within the country itself.

11.5 million active customers, 8.52 million monthly SuperApp users, 441.8 million payments and transfers per year, 32 million requests for government services and a payment turnover comparable to 116% of Kazakhstan's GDP.

These figures show how significantly the very concept of a bank has changed.

Until recently, a bank was a place where people kept their money, took out loans, and paid bills. Today, the market's largest players strive to become the digital infrastructure of everyday life — from salaries and taxes to shopping, travel, investments, and government services.

And it is precisely for this infrastructure that the main competition in Kazakhstan's financial market is now taking place.
